The Angels Rehearse

I was reading Luke 2 this morning...

I wish I could have been there for the angels' dress rehearsal. I imagine them in their choir robes shuffling into place the night before as the conductor reminds them of the plan:

All right, Bob, you show up first. The narrow spotlight will be full on you and you do the full "terrifying angel" thing. (You've got your lines down perfectly, right? We only get 1 chance at this!) If you do it like we practiced they won't be able to take their eyes off of you while the rest of you file into your places. Remember, total darkness and total silence - we've been planning for this moment for millenia so don't mess it up! When I give the signal I want the light crew to pull out all the stops. God has given us the go-ahead to drain up to 100 stars of their light just for that moment, but it's all got to happen in perfect timing. EXACTLY as I point my baton ALL the lights come on simultaneously and the choir really belts it out. Don't come in cautiously trying to find your note - I want you to be singing from your diaphragm with an explosion of music that overwhelms the countryside. If they can't hear you in Jerusalem then you have forgotten the forte I am looking for!

Now, stop, for a second, angels. Remember WHY we are doing this. Our Creator is doing something mind boggling tomorrow night. Our light and sound show is the best the world has ever seen or will ever see to announce it, but even our best cannot compare to the wonder of what He is going to do.

Imagine God... Coming to be WITH THEM... AS one of them! Coming in the form of a baby, a human baby. Did I mention that this is GOD, the CREATOR of the UNIVERSE doing this?!

So remember why we're doing this. Get in your places for one last practice. And whoever the soprano was that came in early and flat last time, make sure that doesn't happen now but especially tomorrow!
